First Gen Events

New and exciting events happening all week across UConn's campuses celebrating our First Gen population! Below is the schedule of events for 2024:

October 31st

Storrs Campus: First-Gen Faculty/Staff Cider & Donut Kickoff

  • Come join first-gen faculty and staff to start the week of events in honor of National First-Generation Day!
  • AAC, Rowe 217. Drop in between 11:00am-1:00pm

Storrs Campus: POLS First Gen Student Networking Opportunity

  • Add your name to our form and you may get a chance to sit down with Dr. Bergendahl, POLS Internship Coordinator who identifies as a first generation college student, to get answers to all your internship-related questions such as:
    • How to find an internship?
    • When you should be looking and when to apply?
    • What you need to know about the application process?
    • Earning credit for an internship,
    • Internship duties, professionalism, and anything else you’d like to ask!
  • Participate until November 8th!
  • Additional information:
    • Can't make it to Storrs campus? You can have a virtual meeting with Dr. Bergendahl and either way the coffee is on us!

    November 2nd

    First-Gen New England Conference

    • UConn first-gen students and staff are joining the First-Gen Summit in Southern New Hampshire University to build coalition and support around issues and solutions that the first-gen community experience on different campuses.

    November 4th

    Storrs Campus: Alumni Networking

    • Join us for a powerful evening of networking in celebration of first-gen UConn students and alumni and work on your professional development skills! Food will be served and registration is required.

    Storrs Campus: Career Center Headshot

    • Missing a professional picture for your LinkedIn? Get ready this First-Gen week by getting your headshot in the Career Center! You can stop by at any time during their drop-in hours.

    Hartford Campus: First-gen Pop-up event

      • Join us in a great opportunity to connect and network with first-gen CAPS/SSS Alumni! Food will be served and registration is required.

      Storrs Campus: International First Gen Learn to Cook

      • If you are an international first-generation student, we invite you to a special “Learn to Cook” session where UConn chefs will demonstrate how to cook a meal and then help you cook the meal. Once everyone is finished, we will sit down and eat together. Undergraduate and Graduate Students are welcome!
      • Registration required. Student Union, Room 329 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

      Storrs Campus: First Gen in Law School

      • Join a discussion with 3 first gen Law School students about their experiences, why they chose Law School, advice on studying for the LSAT, finding prep resources, and more!
